"In 2011 the value of mergers and acquisitions increased by 19%. Their further growth may be expected due to the increased activity of private equity funds and capital from Asia," said Franciszek Hutten-Czapski, managing director at the Warsaw office of the Boston Consulting Group.
Yet, he added that still two thirds of such transactions are unsuccessful, i.e. result in a loss of value for their owners compared to the situation prior to the merger or acquisition. Still as many as 45% of such transactions only concern a part of the company.
Participants of the panel entitled "Mergers, acquisitions and strategic alliances – consolidations in Polish business" agreed that for such an operation to be successful one has to react as quickly as possible.
