Many polish companies derive increasingly more revenues from their foreign operations

On average, 13 per cent of assets of the largest Polish companies are outside Poland's borders. 
They generate about 24 per cent 
of revenues of their mother companies.

Every year, the involvement of Polish companies abroad increases. The main directions for expansion are the countries neighbouring with Poland, however, there are also plenty of companies which venture further, into Asia, America or Africa.

Most of investments of Polish companies abroad date back to the period of economic boom, in years 2006-2007. At that time, the total value of investments of Polish companies exceeded EUR 11 billion. Nevertheless, also during the times of the deepest crisis, Polish companies were keen to invest abroad. In 2010 and 2011, the direct investments amounted to EUR 10.8 billion, but last year this trend came to a halt. It is true that some Polish companies ventured abroad, but there were no spectacular transactions like the acquisition of the Canadian Quadra by KGHM (settled last year). It is enough to say that the value of direct investments of Polish companies abroad amounted to merely EUR 2.8 billion, almost twice less than a year before.

Based on the data we have collected, we estimate that at the end of last year the total value of foreign assets of foreign subsidiaries belonging to Polish companies went up by about 2.5% to PLN 63 billion. Over the same period of time the assets of their mother companies increased by a little over 2 per cent. In terms of revenues, the companies are dealing similarly well to their mother companies.
