Companies see development opportunities mainly abroad

The data collected by "Rz" confirm that in 2010, the value of the Polish companies' assets abroad was PLN 31.5 billion. It was approximately 6 percent more than in 2009. It relates to nearly 22 percent of the total assets of Polish parent companies; the share of foreign companies' income in total sales exceeds 38 percent. Last year, foreign companies owned by Polish enterprises sold goods with the value of nearly PLN 53 billion, i.e., one fourth more than a year earlier.
Cautious purchases
The peak of the project activity of Polish companies abroad was in 2006 and 2007, during the boom period in the world economy. Polish companies began to realise that foreign expansion based mainly on export is no longer enough. Therefore, they started to look for the methods of limiting manufacturing costs and easy access to clients. Therefore, in the times of rapid growth so many Polish plants or distribution companies emerged abroad. Later, due to the financial crisis and recession in numerous well-developed countries, as well as financial problems in project execution, expansion to foreign markets, at least in terms of the transaction value, slowed down. According to the data of the National Bank of Poland, in the record year of 2006, the value of the Polish direct projects abroad exceeded USD 9 billion and in 2009 – decreased to USD 4.5 billion.
