A heated discussion of the representatives of local governments with Sebastian Chwałek, the Deputy Minister of the Interior and Administration, was held on Tuesday, during the Forum of the Regions.

"The establishment of local governments in Poland is the greatest achievement after 1990. When you travel around Poland you can see huge changes to a great extent due to the activity of local governments that make small homelands," said Jacek Krupa, the Marshall of the Małopolskie Province, opening the discussion during the Forum of the Regions. "However, during the 27-year period of existence of local governments in Poland, we have committed the sin of omission. The constitution does not guarantee the structure of the local government that we are familiar with. The only guarantees concern communes. Our major task is to reinforce and guarantee the autonomy of the local government on all levels. This includes independence from the state administration no matter what its political background is.
