Dangerous Lack of Liquidity
Economy | Approx. 50% of the energy produced in Poland should be sold on the commodities exchange. It is a condition for reinforcing competitiveness. ANETA WIECZERZAK-KRUSIŃSKA
The market price is not reliable either to energy concerns or end customers. This conclusion was reached by the participants of the panel entitled "Obligation to sell energy on the exchange – an opportunity or a threat to market competitiveness and energy security".
Necessary intervention
"I realise the paradox. At first, external administrative tools might seem inappropriate to build a free market. Nonetheless, the liquid market generating a transparent price ensures the efficiency of companies on a competitive market," said Paweł Ostrowski, President of the Polish Power Exchange (TGE). TGE requested that the so-called energy sale obligation be raised to 55% (from 15%). The President of the Energy Regulatory Office demands that the level should be at least 30%. The final decision will be made by the Minister of Energy who is examining whether and to what level should the obligation...
